The following are courses available at Oakleaf Junior High for the
2018-2019 school year.
Students enrolled in Piano Keyboarding 1 are 7th and 8th graders with an interest in learning basic piano skills. Students in this class will learn finger positions, musical concepts and notation, as well as basic piano techniques using a varied repertoire. Additionally, students will participate in a class recital in which they will showcase their new found skills. Each student will be responsible for an enrichment fee paid to the school to cover expenses such as music books, performance supplies,etc.
Piano Keyboarding 2 is for 7th and 8th graders who are more proficient in piano. They must have either been enrolled in Piano Keyboarding 1 (with no grade lower than an 80% and good conduct) or have taken private lessons up to level 2B.
This class is for 7-8th grade. It is designed to be an introduction to middle school choral music in order to prepare students for more advanced levels of the choral program at Oakleaf Jr. High. Students will learn basic vocal technique and musicianship skills.
This class is for 7th and 8th graders who have limited experience in a middle school chorus class. These students have at least one year of choral experience and have progressed to an intermediate level of musicianship. Students will learn basic vocal technique and musicianship skills.
This class is for 7th and 8th grade students who have been recommended by their current music teacher and have been in chorus for at least one year. Students in this class perform at an advanced level of musicianship and learn higher levels of vocal technique.
